Ole Miss was so good defensively on Saturday. The Rebels went over the 500-yard mark before the third quarter was over, and at that point, Tech had only 152 total yards including 49 yards rushing and eight first downs. The Rebels ran side to side, got penetration up the middle and on the edges and swarmed the football. Ole Miss, through three weeks, has tackled exceptionally well and played very sound football. It's a credit to the players and to Chris Partridge. They look well coached and are in the right spots.

Khari Coleman was injured early in the game. We'll get what we know to you as soon as we know it. That's obviously one to watch. Otherwise, I didn't notice any injuries of significance.

I don't know what Troy Brown was supposed to do on the targeting. It's the right call by rule but good Lord it's poorly written and unlucky. He turned sideways and avoided it. The receiver lowered into him. At least it's just for the game and not for anything next week.

Otis Reese and Austin Keys were really good and active with run defense and swarming the football. Reese has had a nice three weeks, and Keys seems to be getting more comfortable each week. Ole Miss is upper tier on the back end as far as speed and tackling and it allows for variety and going at offenses from a lot of different angles and directions. Georgia Tech wasn't good enough to push the ball down the field, and that was the end of things. It's why the Kentucky game should be really exciting as a good on good in two weeks. Ole Miss just doesn't give up many free yards to opposing offenses.

Georgia Tech is awful, but Ole Miss went into an ACC program's place and absolutely dominated. Tech hung with Clemson and frustrated the Tigers for a long while before it got ugly. This thing was over from the first series. Jeff Sims is fine in the short and intermediate game, but he started seeing pressure everywhere and couldn't keep composure. His eyes started looking for pass rushers, and that was that. Tech had a little rhythm in the run game if it could throw enough to offset it, but that was a no-go on Saturday.

Ole Miss didn't pass protect well early but it got better as the game went on. The line did a nice job with run blocking, and it doesn't take much with those backs. Ulysses Bentley, Zach Evans and Quinshon Judkins all had two touchdowns each, and the Rebels ran for more than 300 yards including 200 in the first half when it was still sort of competitive. Ole Miss ran on 26 of the first 30 plays of the game. Evans shows such good vision, and Judkins is a battering ram when he gets down hill. He also cuts well. There's so much to like, and then Bentley was unfair to Tech's exposed belly in the second half. The run game will play most anywhere.

Jonathan Mingo is so good with his hands and body control. He muscled over defenders and won contested plays. He's great security for Jaxson Dart. Malik Heath played well, and Jordan Watkins got involved for the first time. Those three didn't get great separation consistently, but it was an improved day when Ole Miss threw it. Jaylon Robinson didn't play. Evans had Ole Miss' only drop of the day. The Rebels have caught the ball well.

Dart is the quarterback. Lane was so pissed at him at halftime, and there's growing pains and bad plays, but he makes some super throws and he competes his tail off. His teammates love him for his energy and the way he plays hard. He trucked that defensive back and the sideline lost its mind. He's going to be very good when he matures as a player more, but Lane is choosing the upside and hoping the plays like the interception today are fewer and fewer. The overthrows are mistakes that need to get better. Receivers were open a lot, It wasn't perfect, but Dart got better as the game went on and he can wow you. I don't really know why Lane was cloak and dagger about it. Sources said Dart took the reps all week. Dart also looked like a leader and he was engaged with teammates the whole game. He's done everything he can to make it his team. Not that Luke has done anything wrong or not also led in his own way; it was just stark to watch Dart take it over with such authority in a multitude of ways.

Ole Miss is good on defense. The running game is special because of the backs. The Rebels may just be really good, period. I still don't know exactly what to make of the competition, but Saturday was super impressive. Kiffin coached until the last whistle and was pressing everyone to keep energy up. It was a sign that he was pushing reserves to fight for more snaps. It was a good problem to have in a ridiculous blowout. Once Tech didn't get that fourth and goal, you may as well had cranked the bus. It was over. Tulsa is up next, and then it's October 1 and Kentucky. That'll be an energetic day in Oxford.
