Over the last two days, a group of friends and I have been riding the Des Moines Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) which consists of 460+ miles in seven days by good old fashion human pedal power with more than 20,000 other cyclists.
The purpose of this post is to give you a little perspective, which I am sure you already know, about how far Ole Miss has come in a year as a brand. When I rode RAGBRAI last year, I repped my Ole Miss gear nearly every day and every once in a while would receive a "Hotty Toddy" typically by another rider from an SEC school.
Well, this year has been unreal. I have received acknowledgements left and right from the non-typical person i.e. Big Ten fans, Pac-West, etc. I have also encountered more than two dozen people that either attended our great university or have a child that did or one that is currently enrolled. It's becoming quite familiar to hear "Hey Ole Miss, Hotty Toddy!" when I ride by a group of other cyclists.
It just goes to show you how far we have come in such a short period of time and how the national exposure we have received recently with the a successful football program and the SEC network, has impacted our brand.
