I never thought I would post something like this. To get right to the point, one of my first-cousins is dying a slow, painful death. He has sickle cell anemia. I did some research and I learned their life expectancy is usually around 50 years or a little less. At the moment he is 48. He is at the UMMC in Jackson and they said that there is nothing more they can do. He will either be going home today or in hospice care for the next few weeks.

Here is my series of questions: I of course live out of state in the DC area and I am the type of person that finds it troubling to see someone I love dearly on their death bed. I also hate the drama of funerals. I wish I could just avoid all of them and cherish the memories I had with the person. What would you do?

Am I wrong for not wanting to see him in this current state? Am I wrong for not wanting to go to his funeral? Should I be a man and just go to the funeral with a heavy heart despite my extreme hate for them? thanks.
