OT: Investing For Beginners

As a Federal Employee (DOD), I'm bracing for our benefits to take a hit under this administration which will include our retirement investing. I've never invested outside of the Thrift Savings Program, but I feel I will soon need to. Anybody have any "investing for beginners" advice?
