@Neal McCready talking about his Sunday meal prep a while back makes me curious on others' strategies for saving costs on food. It's always been a leaky part of my budget.
I basically plan out meals for the week that dictate the grocery list, however I won't shy away from restaurants if it's more convenient in the moment.
I probably either eat at or pick up food from restaurants anywhere from 3-5x a week (primarily on the weelends). It's hard to relate to those that eat at/from a restaurant only once or twice a week. How much time do you spend cooking? Is the price differential worth it since groceries are high as well (especially in MS). What does your average monthly food costs look like?
For reference, last year 2023, we spent $1,800/mo on average across groceries and restaurants and we're on track for $1,600 this year for a family of four.
