I honestly thought maybe they would not do it, since the optics are so terrible. But sure enough, after many months of the Dems advocating over and over raising taxes on the rich, now their leadership has come out in favor of removing the cap on state and local tax (SALT) deductions. I fully understand the politics here, since they represent NY and California, the two highest tax states in the country. Pelosi and Schumer want to shift taxes away from wealthy individuals in their states, but how the hell can you advocate a provision that only benefits 13% of the population, including 92% of the top 1%, while at the same time advocating taxing the rich more?
To his credit, Bernie came out against the proposal today. I may not like his politics, but at least he has a degree of integrity, something that both Schumer and Pelosi sorely lack.
