Ole Miss will obviously start Hunter Elliott against Miami at 2 p.m. CT in a winner's bracket game. Arizona and Canisius are getting started in a few hours in a loser's bracket game. Elliott, a recent Team USA invitee, has a 3.29 ERA in 16 appearances and eight starts. The freshman has been relying on his changeup more and is coming off a four-run, four-inning performance against Texas A&M.

Josh Mallitz threw 29 pitches last night, and Brandon Johnson threw 28 pitches in that ninth inning. Johnson is for sure available today. Mallitz hasn't thrown on back-to-back days all season, so there's little evidence as to how he bounces back a day later. The shortest time between appearances all year is three days and that was after only 11 pitches.

John Gaddis returns from his four-game suspension today and is available.

Miami held ace Carson Palmquist against Canisius, so he gets the ball against the Rebels. The left-hander was an All-America closer a year ago before transitioning to a starter. He's 9-4 with a 3.09 ERA and has 108 strikeouts and 28 walks in 78 innings. Palmquist has only gone more than 100 pitches once but has thrown more than 85 pitches in 10 of his 15 starts. He's only gone seven innings once this year.

Boston College (9 ER in 3.2 IP), Virginia Tech (6 ER in 3.1 IP) and NC State (5 ER in 3.2 IP) got to him, but otherwise he's kept Miami in games. He throws a lot of pitches and isn't very efficient because of his strikeout numbers, but he's a big test for the Rebels today. He gave up eight combined home runs in those three games. He will have the ball leave the yard some.

He's fastball-slider-changeup with the fastball in the low 90s out of a sidearm delivery. It's a weird look. The changeup can be good to really good. The slider is average. The fastball is the pitch that will decide this thing.

Canisius couldn't pull off the upset bid did force Miami into throwing elite closer Andrew Walters for 34 pitches. The 'Canes used six pitchers overall and four of them went more than 30 pitches. Walters has thrown back to back days twice this season -- 22 pitches after 15 pitches and 29 pitches after 12 pitches.
