OXFORD, Miss. ? Hugh Freeze's first preseason got underway Thursday, as players reported to campus for the start of fall camp.
"Our journey begins, and I'm so excited to get started," Freeze said. "(Strength) Coach (Paul) Jackson did a great job this entire offseason of preparing these guys, and we're looking forward to putting all of our focus on getting better as a team these next few weeks."
Among those reporting are 14 first-year Rebels, most of which attended summer school and have already been working out with the team. Quintavius Burdette, Robert Conyers, Issac Gross, Mike Hilton, I'Tavius Mathers, Ben Still, John Youngblood and Jaylen Walton enrolled in first summer term, while Cody Core, Trae Elston and Anthony Standifer were on campus for the second session.
Matt Brown, Tyler Gray and Nathan Noble are also new to the program.
Freeze said he hopes to have Channing Ward and Temario Strong join the team in the coming days.
"They are continuing to work through the process, and we hope to have them in camp as soon as possible," Freeze said.
Thursday's activities include "a taste of Mississippi agriculture." Players and staff will be treated to a steak dinner, sponsored by the state's 17,000 cattle producers through their Beef Checkoff Program along with the Mississippi Cattlemen's Association and Mississippi Land Bank.
Following the meal will be orientation meetings. First-year players will undergo physicals and receive equipment before joining the rest of the team for meetings on academics, compliance and other areas.
Ole Miss will hold Media Day activities Friday beginning with Freeze's press conference at 2 p.m. OleMissSports.com's RebelVision will carry live streams of the press conference and interviews with several key players.
All Saturday practices will be open to the public, including this weekend's workout at 9:45 a.m. on the practice fields. Times and locations for other Saturday practices will be announced at a later date, and all other practices are closed to the public.
Once again this year, OleMissSports.com will be on hand for every minute of the Rebels' preseason drills with daily practice reports and RebelVision's video highlights.
