Player of the Week: Corey Collins, Georgia
Georgia’s Corey Collins registered an SEC-best 29 total bases, six home runs, 13 RBI, 11 hits and eight runs scored in helping Georgia go 4-0 last week including a sweep of No. 8 Alabama. Collins batted an SEC-best .647 (11-for-17) for the week including .583 (7-for-12) with three home runs and five RBI in sweep of Alabama. He started three games off with a home run, doing it twice against Alabama and once against Wofford. Collins hit three home runs in his first three at bats and finished with career-high eight RBI in an 18-6 win over Wofford and posted perfect fielding in 27 total chances in four starts at first base.
Co-Pitcher of the Week: Hagen Smith, Arkansas
Arkansas’ Hagen Smith fired six scoreless innings with 12 strikeouts, his fourth double-digit strikeout game of the season, to improve to 4-0 and log his team-leading fourth quality start of the year in the Razorbacks’ series-opening 1-0 shutout road win against top-25 ranked Auburn. With his 12-strikeout effort, Smith raised his career total to 261 to move into a tie for fourth on Arkansas’ all-time career strikeouts list. The junior left-hander allowed just three hits and two walks against the Tigers.
Co-Pitcher of the Week: Justin Lamkin, Texas A&M
Texas A&M’s Justin Lamkin helped the Aggies to a series-clinching win against No. 16 Mississippi State, tossing 7.1 innings with a career-high 12 strikeouts on Saturday. The sophomore carried a no-hitter into the fifth and retired 21 of the first 22 batters he faced. He surrendered just one run on the afternoon, and seven of Lamkin's 12 punch outs were looking in the win.
Freshman of the Week: Tyler Pitzer, South Carolina
South Carolina’s Tyler Pitzer earned two wins on the mound this week, improving to 4-0 on the season with a 0.48 ERA. He pitched two innings of relief on Tuesday against USC Upstate, striking out two and not allowing a hit in the 14-8 win. Then on Saturday in his first start as a collegian, Pitzer struck out nine and allowed just three hits and two unearned runs with only one walk in a 10-2 win over No. 3 Vanderbilt, who was hitting .315 as a team heading into the game. Pitzer retired the first 10 batters of the game and had 1-2-3 innings in the first, second, third and sixth frames.
