Player of the Week: Robbie Burnett, Georgia
Georgia’s Robbie Burnett batted .667 (8-for-12) with eight runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and 9 RBI in leading Georgia to an SEC series win over No. 23 Kentucky that boasted the nation’s second-ranked pitching staff with a 1.89 ERA. Burnett went 4-for-4 with a career-high 5 RBI in the series-clinching win on Sunday, also got hit by a pitch and drew a walk to reach in all six plate appearances. He provided the go-ahead RBI-single in the sixth inning of Friday night’s comeback win as once trailed 6-2 and scored 10 unanswered runs over the final five frames.
Co-Pitcher of the Week: Marcus Phillips, Tennessee
Tennessee’s Marcus Phillips tossed a seven-inning complete-game shutout on Saturday afternoon to help Tennessee clinch its series against No. 6/7 Florida in his first-career SEC start. The junior righthander struck out seven, scattered five hits and issued just one walk in a career-high seven innings pitched, topping his previous career-best of 5.2 innings. Phillips’ complete-game shutout was the first by a UT pitcher since Drew Beam had one in a win at Vanderbilt on April 3, 2022.
Co-Pitcher of the Week: Bobby Alcock, Alabama
Alabama’s Bobby Alcock punctuated the Tide’s 4-0 week, earning the win in the 2-0 victory over Texas A&M on Sunday to secure the series sweep of the Aggies. The right-hander was responsible for a career-best eight strikeouts over a career high 7.0 scoreless innings in his lone start of the week, scattering four hits to just two walks. Alcock managed at least one strikeout in five of his seven innings, highlighted by four consecutive punchouts between the third and fourth innings.
Co-Freshman of the Week: Andreas Alvarez, Auburn
Auburn’s Andreas Alvarez turned in 4.0 scoreless innings and earned his first career win in his SEC debut and the team’s series-clinching win vs. No. 13 Vanderbilt on Sunday. He faced just one batter over the minimum and retired the last eight Commodores he faced to allow for Auburn to comeback from a five-run deficit in the finale. Alvarez made his first relief appearance of the season vs. UT Martin Tuesday and faced the minimum in 2.0 innings of work.
Co-Freshman of the Week: Derek Curiel, LSU
LSU’s Derek Curiel helped lead the Tigers to four straight wins, including an SEC sweep over Missouri, as he hit .571 (8-for-14) in four games with two doubles, one triple, four RBI and six runs. He batted .455 (5-for-11) in the Missouri series with one triple, three RBI, four runs and a .571 on-base percentage. His three-run triple in the fourth inning on Friday broke a 2-2 tie and gave LSU a lead it would not relinquish.
