Sitting here in my humble abode awaiting the start of the game tonight, so I thought I would share a couple of thoughts about the subject. I am not trying to be CPT Obvious here, nor am I trying to say that I know very little about college basketball without actually saying I know very little about college basketball. Those caveats said:
1. A win tonight puts us at the perceived magic number of 8 league wins for a tournament bid. Anything after that is most likely playing for higher seeding and the resulting better opportunity to play longer in March, at both the SEC tourney and the NCAAs.
2. A win tonight firmly places all the "pressure" of Saturday's game against MSU on them. Now, most of the pressure is already on them. A win tonight removes any tourney doubt and further heightens the sense of urgency from MSU after their blowout loss at home last night, which was their 4th league loss at home.
3. A win tonight keeps us on schedule regarding the NET and avoids a quad 2 (or 3) loss and the stigma of USCe possibly being "Ole Miss and 17" in league play. I really hate to hear our maroon in-state brethren chirp about Kentucky being "Ole Miss and 7" during football season.
Those are just a couple of thoughts bouncing around in my head as tipoff approaches. Please share any additional thoughts you have about the importance of tonight's game against USCe. Go REBS! Beat USCe! HYDR!
