MULLIGAN. To steal a golf term. Chase you can appreciate that.

Please folks if you are expecting big things in this very weird, strange 2020 football season you’re in for disappointment.

The circumstances and challenges Lane Kiffin has inherited starting with his hiring in December 2019 would challenge some of the game’s greatest head coaches.

Our fans MUST give him TIME and PATIENCE.

Let’s look at those challenges and circumstances.

1. THE CORONAVIRUS (A world-wide pandemic)
Shutting down society, the business world and the college football world. Every single program has been ****ed by this, including the Blue-Bloods.
This is a huge setback for stability.

2. Inheriting a program that is FRESH off of probation and a ridiculous, unjust 5 year witch hunt investigation and the false reputation it created in the media.

3. The normal nature of being a first year head coach and establishing the type of program the new head coach wants...

4. Being a first year head coach in America’s toughest, most cutthroat conference...the SEC.
Not to mention in the league’s toughest division..the SEC West. Here’s his competition in recruiting and GameDays on Saturday:

Ed Orgeron, Nick Saban, Jimbo Fisher, Gus Malzhan, Mike Leach....Lol GOOD LUCK.

Tennessee, Georgia, Florida are also tough and become tough obstacles at times.

5. Building one of the SEC’s smallest programs into a contender in a small state with another SEC program that is your heated, bitter rival. Also having to recruit in that same state and region with the nation’s best programs. We compete against bigger programs in bigger states population wise and resource wise..money. Also let’s not forget the lack of consistent winning year in and year out.

6. Ole Miss’ struggles to evolve from the past and any lingering bad perceptions out there. I HAVE TO SAY THOUGH....the program and the school have come light years in evolving and becoming a modern, inclusive, welcoming community to all types of people. As each year goes by this becomes less and less of an issue. The state flag, Confederate monuments, Dixie, Mascots, etc.

When Lou Holtz took over at South Carolina in 1999...he went 0-11 that year but the Gamecock fans still came out and nearly sold out games that season.

Let’s take a lesson from that and if things go extremely bad this season let’s preserve through the tough times and just remember that this season and probably 2021 are years designed to build for the future.

We have one of the most well known, publicized head coaches in America. That will translate into future recruiting successes in the years to come. We will start bringing in big recruiting hauls in the future and we’re going to get them in the nation’s most populated states with the best talent in high school football.

That will also bolster in state recruiting success in the future.

Patience, patience and perseverance this season is the name of the game. The results in the win and loss column this season and next are not of the utmost importance. We’re rebuilding big time. It takes time. Nothing more.

The Ole Miss job is one of the toughest in college football. However we have a coach who is up for it and who can make us successful.
