in the near future….you could see four 18 team super conferences one day….
The ACC will continue to become more of an east coast-eastern united states league not only in the southern
atlantic area but in the northeastern united states with some of the nation's biggest population centers. The ACC will truly be the nation's elite basketball conference with traditional powers North Carolina, Duke, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech but will also be strengthen from not only recent addition Syracuse and Louisville but from the addition of Connecticut as well. West Virginia, Clemson, Boston College and Notre Dame are also decent hoops programs as well. West Virginia will leave the Big XII and will relocate to more of a naturally located
conference. Army and Navy will join for the important role service academies play in our nation. Central Florida is a giant school and will bring the Orlando TV market into the league.
The SEC will expand into three new states North Carolina, Virginia and Oklahoma. NC State, Virginia, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and TCU will join the conference. Oklahoma and TCU are the kingpins in football. NC State and Virginia have had moderate success at times in football but for the most part are not dominant powers. The SEC already has a ton of heavyweights in football so this will allow for more winnable games for current conference members. The benefit for NC State and Virginia will be for those schools and fan bases to enjoy the perks of playing in the SEC and having those two schools improve over time similar to what has happened with TX A&M and Missouri to a certain degree. TCU is in the Dallas-Fort Worth TV market and the SEC will add to its footprint in the nation's 2nd highest populated state. Oklahoma State provides a rivalry for Oklahoma and Arkansas and will bring solid programs-facilites in football, basketball and baseball as well.
In the Big Eighteen the northern schools of the old Big XII will be assembled into the Big Eighteen. Kansas, Kansas State and Iowa State will join as well as Missouri which will return to more of a natural geographically located conference. Missouri has more old rivalries with schools in the old Big Ten as opposed to the SEC. Nebraska, Illinois and Kansas create more intrigue and are better rivals for Missouri.
And finally the Pac Twelve or now the Pac Eighteen will see the additions of Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor, Colorado State, BYU and Boise State to the league. All 6 of these schools have been decent to great at times throughout their histories. The state of Texas and its giant population base will provide three new members to the league. Boise State brings the league into the state of Idaho. BYU and Colorado State will provide new rivalries for the league as well.
There will be no Independents in big time college football anymore.
