I’m a Yankees fan. From the pod yesterday, Neal said Girardi was fired in 2018, after an ALCS game 7 loss to the Astros because he didn’t meet expectations. At the time, there were rumors that even winning the World Series wouldn’t save Girardi’s job. There had been rumors for a year or more that there was a power struggle going on. Cashman wanted more say in the lineup, who pitched in the bullpen, etc. he basically wanted to be the manager without being the manager. To this day, Cashman still sets the lineup, tells Boone before games what pitchers to use in the bullpen, etc. Boone is basically just a guinea pig.
