Well, for the second time in as many games you have to admire the fight offensively. Things were quite bleak at 7-2 in the eighth inning, but Ole Miss put together a couple good at-bats that ended with a hit by pitch and a walk to take advantage of control issues from a couple A&M relievers. Nick Fortes and Chase Cockrell had nice at-bats, leading to the free passes. Thomas Dillard was somewhat bailed out by an 0-2 hit by pitch. Then Michael Fitzsimmons hit the pinch hit grand slam. He hammered it and made the most of the opportunity. That's a cool moment, even in the loss. Good dude had a heck of an at-bat.

Brady Feigl's first two years in the program featured really good stuff, good moments and the inability to stop bleeding once it started. This season had been different until tonight, but he lost his composure and release point the second inning, leading to a four-run frame for Texas A&M. The Aggies hit two singles and a home run while getting three Feigl walks and a wild pitch in the inning. He 'd only walked two all season entering the game. It's just one start and he sort of settled back in following the disastrous inning, but it was a look at past seasons. He's human. I think he'll overcome it moving forward.

Feigl forced 11 ground balls in 6.1 innings and still had upper-tier stuff other than that costly blip in the middle of the start.

Chase Cockrell had three hits and reached base four times. He's hitting .438 on the season, and this is a big boost mentally for him, as he hit velocity. Credit to Jacob Adams for a nice offensive night with two hits and also to Cole Zabowski. He pinch hit late in the game and had a really nice swing to take a pitch the other way, but it hung up for a line out. It was a good piece of hitting. Sometimes it doesn't work out. He also had a double in the ninth inning.

This game was lost because of two reasons. First was the four-run Texas A&M inning, and the other was not getting enough done against TAMU starter John Doxakis. He was sharper than last week against Auburn, but the stuff wasn't at that the level that the box score represents. He struck out seven without a walk and only gave up one extra base hit. The at-bats weren't good enough, and Ole Miss let him get into plus counts with get-over fastballs.

Ryan Olenek jammed a finger, but the x-ray is negative and nothing is broken. He's questionable for tomorrow but nothing serious. Nick Fortes should be fine, as well.

Greer Holston hit 94 on the gun and showed a lot of maturity and some quality stuff in relief. In the bullpen he can max out a little more than he does in a starting role. There's some potential there.

Ole Miss was 3-of-16 with runners on and 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position. That's what this comes down to. Ole Miss' offense needed to bail the pitching out, and they let Doxakis off the hook.

In saying that, 5 runs and 6 runs will win a lot of games this season for the Rebels. Texas A&M is a good team. No one was getting swept this weekend. Huge day for James McArthur tomorrow. He's thrown 11 shutout innings in his two starts to decide series this season.
