I had the pleasure to attend the Mississippi Sports HOF induction ceremony Saturday night in Jackson, Three of the inductees told their recruiting stories.
Mike Dennis wanted to go to Alabama after he visited along with Jackie Sherrill and the Bear let them both drive his Caddilac. Bruiser Kinard took Mike out of his class at Murrah the day before signing day and hid him out in a hotel in Jackson. He signed his LOI at midnght with Kinard and Vaught present.
Brett Favre had two offers the day before signing day, one from Delta State and one from a JUCO. The night before signing day he got a call from a USM coach, Jim Carmody I think, and he was told a Florida QB had backed out of his commit and did Brett want to attend USM. He told him he did.
Fred McAffee said he was being recruited by Ole Miss and State(didn't say he had an offer). He was talked into taking a trip to Mississippi College. On the trip he was given a steak to eat. He had never had a steak before. After eating one they gave him another and he ate it too. then they gave him some Ice cream and later on he ate a pizza and then another. He liked the food so much he signed with Mississippi College.
