The AJC interviewed Jeffery Simmons yesterday because Georgia offered the Noxubee County defensive lineman. He told the AJC that Barney Farrar is his closest relationship as far as a coach during his recruitment. He gave no other hints to anything, but that was a decent sign for Ole Miss.

We won't know for a while just how much or what it will ultimately mean, but Ole Miss has definitely gotten a bump "some juice," a source said, from its 43-37 win over Alabama last Saturday in Tuscaloosa. The win, a source said, has gotten Ole Miss into the mix on some new names, though no new names were named (sounds like a Dr. Seuss book there; sorry). Anyway, on to some nuggets…

Ole Miss is making a move for five-star tight end Isaac Nauta. Georgia continues to lead, but the Rebels are closing the gap. Nauta has always liked Ole Miss, and he's built a friendship with Shea Patterson and fellow IMG receiver/Ole Miss target Drake Davis. His recruitment could bring some intrigue.

Sources close to the Ole Miss program feel very good about the Rebels' chances to land Kentwood, La., four-star ATH Shyheim Carter. The former Alabama commitment is looking at LSU and Georgia as well, but the feeling is Ole Miss has really separated itself from the field.

Macon, Miss., four-star defensive end Jeffery Simmons just picked up a Georgia offer, and Simmons is definitely going to look around. However, a source close to his recruiting said Ole Miss really helped itself with Simmons by beating Alabama with Simmons in attendance Saturday. Mississippi State, Alabama, Auburn and others are in the mix, but the Rebels will be in it until the very end, and Ole Miss likes its chances.

I posted a note on Germantown, Miss., four-star ATH Nigel Knott earlier this morning on the message board. I and others following his recruiting believe that while Alabama, Oregon, Florida State and others will continue to be mentioned and talked about, Knott will ultimately decide between Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

The win at Alabama also helped Ole Miss' case with Starkville, Miss., wide receiver A.J. Brown and his teammate, defensive lineman Kobe Jones. How much? There's no way to know. If Signing Day were today, neither would sign with Ole Miss, but the win in Tuscaloosa turned their heads, per a source close to their recruiting.

Ole Miss will entertain one basketball official visitor this weekend. Metuchen, N.J., shooting guard Breein Tyree will be in Oxford Friday through Sunday. Tyree visited Kansas State last weekend. The Wildcats, Rebels and Massachusetts appear to be his finalists.
