I talked to Shea Patterson last night, and he's coming back to Oxford for the Grove Bowl this weekend - as you probably heard or saw during all of Woody Womack's excellent coverage the past few days.
Patterson said he's for sure bringing Shyheim Carter. I'll give Patterson one thing: When he goes fishing he doesn't try to catch bream.
As you know, Devin White is the No. 90 overall prospect in the class from Springhill (North Webster), La. He's underranked, if anything. He's listed as an athlete, and he's 6-foot, 253 pounds. He drove over for Patterson's commitment announcement in February. They are very close. Patterson said last weekend White would be "a big get" for Ole Miss.
Deontay Anderson is the No. 43 overall prospect and the No. 5 safety nationally. He has offers from everybody. He's listed at 6-foot, but he's grown to nearly 6-foot-2 now. He has a top 10 of Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M and USC. He runs the 4X100 relay and 4X200 relay on his school's track team.
Mykel Jones, a wide receiver from Patterson, La., is rated No. 64 in the Rivals100. He recently named a top five of Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, Texas and USC, but Rivals.com analysts believe Ole Miss is lingering and will continue to build momentum due to Patterson encouraging Jones to take longer looks at the Rebels.
Shyheim Carter, from Kentwood, La., is the No. 2 athlete nationally and the No. 47 overall prospect. He's committed to Alabama. He's been committed to the Tide since last July. Ole Miss and FSU are two schools he continues to mention, but I have no idea about legitimate interest. That'll be a topic if Patterson convinces him to take the trip.
