OXFORD -- Two Ole Miss players are set to transfer for the 2015 season.
Running
back Mark Dodson and safety David Kamara are both expected to leave the
program, sources confirmed to the Clarion-Ledger. The Ole Miss Spirit
first reported the story.
Both were members of the class of 2013 and will have three years left to play two.
Dodson,
a former four-star prospect from Memphis, ran for 249 yards and four
touchdowns in 2014. But Dodson fell behind in a crowded backfield,
carrying the ball 19 times in eight SEC games and not at all in the
Peach Bowl. Ole Miss returns five other scholarship running backs for
2015 plus has recruited four-star back Eric Swinney.
Dodson also returned nine kickoffs for 236 yards this season.
Kamara
is best known as part of the Grayson Five, a group of Robert
Nkemdiche's friends that were expected to follow him to a college
campus. Kamara was the only one who ended up signing with Ole Miss. A
three-star prospect, Kamara struggled to establish much of a role in Ole
Miss' secondary and made two tackles in 14 career games. One of those
came this season, against Louisiana-Lafayette. He did not play in Ole
Miss' final three games.
The moves should help Ole Miss' crowded
scholarship situation. The Rebels had a small senior class and came into
the fall expecting to be able to sign only 15 players in this signing
class, but have 16 current commitments.
Memphis radio personality Greg Gaston is reporting that Dodson will transfer to hometown Memphis.
