First of all, I want to thank everyone for their valuable advice and for all of the concerns and prayers! They all helped put tremendously. Also, the snake bite was so severe that WJTV came out and interviewed my sister and she will be on the 10 o'clock news. I'm not sure how word spread. They performed surgery on John's leg last night and they will do another one tomorrow. They are trying to minimize the damage as much as they can. I talked to John today and he told me what happened. He was exploring an old cemetery in Rodney, MS and the weeds were somewhat high, but not so high so you couldn't see a few feet in front of you. Long story short, the snake CHARGED him! He said he never saw the snake until the snake lunged at him from 3 or 4 feet away and directly in front of him. He said the rattlesnake was at least 6 feet long and larger in diameter than his arm. It latched onto his upper calf. He said the snake jumped so high that had he been a foot closer it would have bitten him on his hip. The snake bit so hard that John couldn't shake him and was dragging the snake backwards. The snake finally let go and then bit him again. The fang marks on his legs are 1.5 inches wide. He will be in ICU at least 2 more days and then go back to a room where hopefully he will recover and get to go home. I hope my sister doesn't look too bad on TV. She hasn't slept much the last couple of days. Once again, thanks for your concern.
