Welcome to The Wednesday Word! This devotional series began as part of my New Year’s resolution to spend more time in God’s Word, and I felt led to share what I’m learning along the way. My hope is that these weekly reflections encourage, challenge, and bless you as much as they do me. God bless & Hotty Toddy!

Here’s last week's if you missed it:

Victory Over Temptation

Scriptures:

"No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it." – 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)

"Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." – Matthew 26:41 (NIV)

Reflection:

Temptation is something we all face, and it often comes when we least expect it. Whether it’s the temptation to react in anger, to compromise our integrity, or to fall back into unhealthy habits, the battle is real. But God is faithful. He promises that no temptation is beyond what we can endure and that He will always provide a way out. Jesus understood the power of temptation. In Matthew 26:41, He warned His disciples to stay alert and pray because, though they had good intentions, their human nature was weak. That same warning applies to us today. If we want to overcome temptation, we must be watchful and prayerful, relying on God’s strength instead of our own. When temptation comes, we have a choice. Will we give in, or will we seek the way out that God provides? Victory is possible when we stand on His Word, stay in prayer, and trust in His power to help us overcome.

How to Apply This to My Life:
  1. Be Aware – Identify the areas where you are most vulnerable to temptation. Awareness is the first step to overcoming it.
  2. Pray for Strength – Before temptation even comes, ask God to strengthen you and help you recognize His way out.
  3. Use Scripture – Find a Bible verse that speaks to your specific struggle and memorize it. Speak it over your situation when temptation arises.
  4. Remove Triggers – If there are people, places, or situations that regularly lead you into temptation, take steps to avoid them.
  5. Find Accountability – Share your struggle with a trusted friend or mentor who can pray with you and encourage you.
  6. Take the Way Out – When temptation comes, don’t try to fight it in your own strength. Look for the way out that God has provided and take it.

Today’s Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness and for always providing a way out when I face temptation. Help me to recognize the moments when I am weak and to turn to You instead of giving in. Give me the strength to stand firm, the wisdom to see the way out, and the courage to take it. I trust in Your power to help me overcome. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
