Welcome to The Wednesday Word! This devotional series began as part of my New Year’s resolution to spend more time in God’s Word, and I felt led to share what I’m learning along the way. My hope is that these weekly reflections encourage, challenge, and bless you as much as they do me. God bless & Hotty Toddy!

Here’s last week's if you missed it:

Leading Your Family

Scriptures

"But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." — Joshua 24:15 (NIV)

"Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." — Ephesians 6:4 (NIV)

Reflection

In today’s culture, the role of a husband and father is often diminished, misunderstood, or even criticized. The world promotes independence over commitment, self-interest over sacrifice, and moral compromise over biblical truth. But now more than ever, families need strong, godly men who are willing to lead with courage, conviction, and love. Leadership in the home doesn’t mean dominance or control—it means serving as Christ did, putting your family’s needs before your own, and standing firm in faith even when culture pushes against God’s design. Joshua’s declaration in Joshua 24:15 is a challenge to every man today: Will you choose to lead your family in a way that honors God, even when the world suggests otherwise? Ephesians 6:4 reminds fathers that their leadership should be rooted in love and instruction. Many children today are growing up without spiritual guidance, leaving them vulnerable to the world’s shifting values. But as a father, you have the opportunity—and the responsibility—to be a steady foundation in their lives, teaching them truth, modeling integrity, and leading them closer to Christ.

How to Apply This to My Life

  • Set the Spiritual Tone – Make prayer, Bible reading, and church a priority in your home.
  • Lead by Example – Show your family what faith in action looks like through your words and deeds.
  • Be Present and Engaged – Invest time in your wife and children, fostering relationships built on love and trust.
  • Teach Truth in a Confusing World — Help your family navigate cultural pressures by grounding them in God’s Word.
  • Love Sacrificially – Serve your family selflessly, just as Christ served the Church.
Today’s Prayer

Heavenly Father, in a world that often rejects Your truth, help me to stand strong as a husband and father. Give me wisdom to lead my family well, patience to teach with love, and strength to remain faithful to Your calling. Let my home be a place where You are honored and glorified. Help me to guide my wife and children in Your ways, setting an example of faith, integrity, and sacrificial love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
