Hello Rebel Grovers.

Man, it’s good to be free.

I spent the night on the Square trying to dig up some recruiting nuggets for you guys, but first, I feel compelled (and Neal and Chase told me I had to) to apologize for my absence during the heart of the ‘cruitin season.

I had yet another run-in with the law that sort of forced me to rearrange my plans (and my living arrangements) for awhile. However, thanks to the kindness of Haley Barbour, that’s all behind me now. For the record, I was framed. I am, in the words of Billy Joel, an innocent man.

Also, thanks to both Neal and Chase for their patience during this latest ordeal. They are wonderful human beings who have shown a tremendous amount of patience as I’ve sought a more mature personal path. Bless them.

(Neal, Chase, you can stop reading now. I’ve said everything you told me I had to say. I’ll take it from here.

(Between us, neither of those guys did anything for me during my incarceration. They never came to see me. Chase hung up on me when I called him from lock-up. Neal returned my mail unopened. Last night, while Chase dined out at some fancy restaurant and Neal grilled steaks on his fancy little grill, I had a Filet-o-Fish at Mickey D’s. I couldn’t afford the fries, so I “borrowed” some from some little kid who ran to the playground. I deserve better, especially since I was up late working while they were “having a life.” Screw them. Late last night, I went searching for food. I learned there’s no Krystals in Oxford. Neal told me that’s probably a good thing. He said there are plenty in Alabama. He said I should go to Tuscaloosa, wear purple and gold and do some late-night dining at one of the Krystals there. He then laughed, hung up and told me to stop calling. What the hell?

Anyway, on to ‘cruitin:

I think the prospects went to different places last night, and I don’t think there’s a whole lot of drama to be had this weekend. Temario Strong came up to me and told me how excited he was to be in Oxford. He was bouncing off the walls. He got on stage, grabbed a microphone and started yelling into it. I couldn’t understand what he was saying. He’s a good players, but his emcee skills need work. …I talked to Maikhail Miller, who said he was going to get a shot at quarterback before entertaining a position change. He really likes Hugh Freeze. …Ben Still said he’ll arrive in Oxford June 1 to get started. I’Tavius Mathers kept getting asked about what happened between he and Vanderbilt. He didn’t seem eager to talk about it. He is obviously close friends with C.J. Beathard. Speaking of Beathard, he looked like he might need to go dining with Chase. He’s pretty thin right now. …Finally, Channing Ward kept getting asked if he was considering any other schools. Each time, he emphatically shook his head no.

That’s it for me. Who knew Jack Daniels would be so tasty in coffee?
