Anything from AD or insiders yet? What do OM fans think about his ridiculous arrest?

This kid is terrible news. He was a team menace at clemson. Just an all around locker room cancer due to his attitude. Ole Miss should thread lightly and think about retracting his offer. That said its understandable recruiting him and hoping he gets his "stuff" together since he has field talent.

He's gone. Jimbo would pat him on the back and say no big deal.

Its time to start looking for another Qb. This kid needs to mature.

I'd bring his ass to Oxford anyway, have him meet a coach at the football stadium @ 6am 7 days a week for a year and see how bad he wants to play football.

On top of that I'd bench his ass his entire jr year and re-evalute him his sr year.

I don't think you fully understand this kid. The reason he was booted from CU was because he got into a verbal altercation with a coach that was very near physical. CU was going to hand out some of that internal discipline to him and told them to f off, he wasn't doing it, so they kicked him. No respect for anyone, and appears he hasn't learned much.

He pitched a bunch of fits at Clemson -including on the field during practice with coaches.

I guess they were able to keep most of those under wraps, but with so much coverage of their spring game and as bad as it was I guess it got out. I would think he was complaining about something they were trying to teach him to run CU's offense that didn't agree with what his uncle taught him. Assuming Jim was ever around him.

The spring game incident and the few days after that were the straw that broke the camels back. He had an attitude issue from day one and his troubles date back to high school. He got kicked off one team in high school and had to play somewhere else to finish his career there. Before he ever stepped foot on campus as a student he sent Cole Stoudt numerous tweets talking junk and harassing him. Another incident not long before the spring game him and another guy backed their car (he was a passenger) into a well known females car around campus and after she mentioned calling the cops "swag" apparently had a few choice words for her and showed his thug side and that didn't go over well with the staff either. Dabo gave him chance after chance and his attitude never improved so he had to be shown the door. Apparently he still hasn't changed and the best thing you guys could do is stay far far away from this kid. I hope he can turn his life around and mature cause he is a very talented football player.

I hope Freeze is simply verifying the news reports

then summarily booting him. If he can't control his behavior, and its obvious to me he can't, too much trouble.

I'll let the facts come out before I pass judgement. I remember the Kennedy thing and how it appeared at first and then when the facts came out things changed. Kelly wasn't even arrested. Didn't have to post bail. Let Uncle Jim talk to the police and see what happens. I know one thing. He'd be running stadiums every morning and too tired to party if I coached him and he made it to Oxford.

Kelly was arrested, but you are correct that he didn't have to post bail. They probably know him on a first name basis.

Yea, you can't have 6 or so charges against you without being arrested or have a warrant out for your arrest. These aren't rumors, this is what the cops are saying he did.

Probably true. Marshall Henderson came to Ole Miss with more baggage. Even though he drove our coach nuts and walked a fine line between good and bad behavior he did OK and got his degree. I guess it's Freeze's call whether we take him or not. He'll probably be a pain in the butt for our coaches if he gets here. I'm sure if Freeze allows him to enroll he'll be on a tight leash.

Let's not forget about the hit and run incident at Clemson as well. This kid is just bad medicine in and out of the locker room.

Based on what I've read, the offer should be rescinded. This kid has been given enough opportunity to change his ways and now given another by Ole Miss, he goes out and gets in more trouble. He either has an alcohol problem or is stupid or both. Kelly has not grown up yet and I don't think Freeze needs any more rebuilding projects.

Grumpy no one has kept anything under the rug about Kelly. He was arrested on campus prior to getting kicked off and NO he was not giving a choice after the fit he pitched at the spring game. He ran his mouth from day one!! Region shut his mouth on the field when he beat his ass.

Just like a Dawg fan you have NO CLUE

His dad was always part of Jim's entourage, so I'm sure Chad knew Jim well.

Being from WNY I'm quite familiar with their exploits, and I'm guessing Chad learned of entitlement at an early age.

Maybe it wasn't swept under the run and just not as much publicity about it because he didn't play or was redshirted or whatever, but it wasn't big news like this incident is. Clemson fans may have known, but it wasn't out there for all to see like this. I know CU didn't sweep Sammy's issue under the rug, but a backup, or 3rd stringer, no one cares and it just wasn't news in Kelly's case./

His problems go back to high school and he was considered high risk when we took him... Still wish we had him for the bowl game vs Oklahoma

I feel the same way ranchreb. Too many are jumping to a quick judgement. Chad has played at EMCC for a year with no problems. There's always 2 sides to every story. Whatever the outcome, I trust Coach Freeze to do the right thing.[/B]

Here is what actually happened. Kelly got into an altercation with the coaches in the spring game, because they called a punt on 4th down, instead of going for the 1st down. (He was not having a good day, and Cole Stoudt was ahead of him on the depth chart, such as it was.) Kelly continued to argue with the coaches all game, and was benched for the 2nd half. After the game, he got into a traffic accident with a Clemson official, and had yet another altercation. The following Monday, Sweeney kicked him off the team. There was no cover up about it. It was extensively covered in and around Clemson. The reason this incident got more national publicity is because Kelly actually got arrested this time.

Ranch, what are the rules involving a signee in such as case?

I would think we have no obligation to honor his scholarship or acceptance into OM.

I keep hearing the story that he didn't start it. I don't care. He was out at 3am and got in an alteration. He got into with the cops and made threats to kill people. Just days after we took the gamble and let him sign here. I am baffled that Hugh Freeze has not cut him lose yet.

You think that kid can survive a Party school like Ole Miss with all the drinking and things that go on. He has some mental issues.

This is a Houston Nutt move. Trent Hosick is a good kid and wants to come here. You don't have to have a four star QB to win. Do the right thing. Give him a shot not Wacko Kelly. I hope Danny will get in his ear.

It's looking more and more likely that he is going to hang on. I would imagine he will have a zero tolerance policy from this point forward. I mean if he misses or is late for one team meeting he will be a gone arse. If he is to remain here he is going to have to put this childish sh*t behind him or go play for Jackson State.

If you want to compare him to a former Ole Miss basketball player, Kelly's a lot more like Jelan Kendrick than Marshall.

Re: Ranch, what are the rules involving a signee in such as case?

Actually he'll count toward our 25 but we won't sing 25 anyway so it won't matter.

Well, well, well. We're learning that Chad did NOT start the fight. It was the bouncer who hit him in the mouth. Also, no one heard Chad say anything about ''spraying the place with an AK-47".
Slowly but surely we're getting the facts. We're learning that he was released without bail, and his next court date is Jan. 5th and that Coach Freeze is not expected to make a final decision on Kelly's status with the team until then.
Video link:
Deadspin quotes an anonymous source (the same one that gave them the video) as saying that Kelly was struck in the face prior to the recording, and then spit some blood on one of the bouncers. You can hear the latter being said during the video, just before the physical contact started.

yes, he was arrested. he was detained by the police and was not allowed to depart on his own; he was in custody and was arraigned. that is arrest. you are confused in that he was released on his own without posting a cash bond or bond via a surety [bondsman]. He has a return date to a court proceeding. he was most certainly arrested and has active cases in the criminal justice system. not sure about New York, but in Mississippi, you can get serious jail time, up to 364 days in prison for certain misdemeanors, so this is not trivial. its as serious as a heart attack.

Most alarming of all

Is NOT being drunk at a strip club at 3 am. There is lots of too weird going on here to my liking. Exactly what was his business? CHF will need an ankle bracelet on this one.

Re: Most alarming of all

If you have a problem with college athletes in strip clubs at 3am you better stop reading the internet.

You're not ready for the truth.

Is it the best decision? No! Is it common? YES!

Re: Most alarming of all

I'm not defending Kelly at all, but I've seen NO evidence that this was a strip club. Heard the Buffalo newspaper reporter interviewed on H2H yesterday, he was asked about the place and he didn't describe it as such. He did say events like that are common with the college kids that hang out in that and nearby bars/clubs.
