Don't get me wrong, texting and driving is a terrible and dangerous habit. However, I'd say 95% of us still do it and try to get that "quick text" in. I'm guilty sometimes and try very hard not to do it. If it's not illegal, people will hold their phone up next to the steering wheel so they can see the road and their phone at the same time. Still kinda dangerous, but you can still see the road. But when it becomes illegal, people put their phone down close to their lap and are looking down, and not at the road at all, so that a cop cannot see them texting. That is way more dangerous. Right or wrong, that is what people will do and it will cause more wrecks. I realize I'm not the first person to think about this, but it's not often talked about...and no I'm not a libertarian who thinks there should be zero laws in this country.

On that note, don't text and drive.
