4th and short

I thought we had figured it out with Quinshon and then again with JJ this year. Espn kept showing JJ was 12/12 or something like that going into the FL game.

I just really want to know if anyone grabbed JJ and told him to run up the A/B gap or not? I feel like we get those 4th downs and win the game if he doesn’t try to bounce it outside. I’m assuming no one told him to run it up the middle and that was his natural instinct. That’s poor coaching if so. Or maybe JJ just did that himself bc it worked in recent games.

Even one FG on one of those TO on downs would’ve changed the game. Those plays gave FL all the momentum.

What do Texas, Penn St, Notre Dame, SMU, Indiana, Boise, Miami and Ariz St all have in common?

First- As we sit here today, all 8 of those teams have a chance to win it all.

Second- Those 8 teams have combined for ZERO wins against teams currently ranked in the Top 15 in the CFP rankings.

Moral of the Story- Strength of Schedule does not matter. Record does. But when we saw the makeup of the Committee, we should have known that would be the deal. Half the people on that Committee have absolutely no idea what the backside tackle’s responsibility is on Inside Zone, something that every junior high coach in the country knows. Zero real football knowledge. So there is no chance to impress with the eye test. They have no eyes. They are looking at record and helmet. Notre Dame must be good because Knute Rockne was a great coach. And if there is a 3 loss team that gets in, you have to put the Tide in. Look how may championships they have. So stupid.

If Strength of Schedule even mattered a bit, Florida would have received votes. Florida played 5 teams ranked in the top 13 and finished 7-5. But yeah, Army at 24 is clearly better than Florida.

But we knew all this going in. Its our own fault. We completely mismanaged 3 football games. But we have to learn from this, and one thing that is glaringly apparent is this- as long as half of the Committee makeup consists girls and pencil pushers, record matters more than anything. So don’t schedule out of conference teams that have a chance to be good. Like USC. Win your 4 noncons, go 6-2 in the league, and you're in. And don't lose late. Do you think that if Notre Dame would have lost to NIU last week they'd be sitting at 4? No way.
