HATTIESBURG — Choctaw County is the
MHSAA Class 3A football champion.
The Chargers (14-1) defeated Noxubee County (11-3) 34-27 on Thursday at
Southern Miss' M. M. Roberts Stadium.
It’s Choctaw County’s first state championship in program history. Noxubee County has now lost five state championships games in a row since its last title in 2017.
Choctaw County led the entire game and looked primed to seal the championship with the ball in Noxubee County territory up 34-27 with under five minutes to play. Caleb Cunningham had four catches for 52 yards and seven rushes for 42 yards. He scored a touchdown in the third quarter on a 39-yard screen pass on fourth down.
Taylor went 10-for-23 with 151 passing yards, one touchdown and a two-point conversion.
