As we mentioned yesterday, we are expecting news tonight (5:30-6:30ish) on Ole Miss landing a commitment from Memphis (Whitehaven), Tenn., SF Marcanvis Hymon. Hymon is a 6-6ish wing who can create off the dribble and score at the basket. He's ranked by Rivals.com as the nation's No. 101 player.
There was buzz here last week about Nashville, Tenn., SG Jake Allsmiller and Ole Miss. While there is mutual interest, and it's somewhat strong, it appears to have been overstated last week. Ole Miss has not, per sources, extended a committable offer to Allsmiller. Instead, the Rebels appear to still in the evaluation process. The shooting guard Ole Miss appears to covet is Tifton, Ga., product Tadric Jackson. The Rebels will get a visit this fall, but the feeling right now is Alabama likely enjoys a small lead.
Ole Miss is also pursuing Suwanee, Ga., SG Devin Mitchell. In other words, that spot has options, and the Rebels appear to be exploring them.
Ole Miss hasn't given up on Jackson, Miss., guard Malik Newman, but there doesn't appear to be any real hope of landing the nation's No. 1-ranked player. Instead, there's a growing consensus that Kentucky has emerged as the leader for Newman.
