After integration, we were never a top contender. Freeze has done a fabulous job in his first 4 years. From watching this game, anyone with eyes can see that we need to make changes with the offensive line, particularly Matt Luke. Great guy, but he isn't an SEC recruiter and coach for the long hall.
What I am really getting at is that even though we underachieved this year, we still have something to hang our hats on during since 2012. We are 2-1 vs Moo State since 2012, we have a litany of top draft picks that will only help us maintain a good recruiting class to at least compete for something bigger than the Egg Bowl every year, and lastly, if our bottom is being knocked out of the college football after National Championship expectations, I can live with that.
Going forward, we should keep Freeze and eventually we will get there. Keep in mind that Chip Kelly never got there before he went pro. He had Heisman caliber offensive players every year along with Nike money and still did not make it. I don't know when Ole Miss will make a title, but at the very least we are a solid top 25 program from here on out. Freeze was ready for this, but guys like Matt Luke were not.
