It was a really quick tempo practice. Everything was controlled and had an order to it, but it was a lot of plays stuffed into less than two hours. It was hot and humid, and he got them in and out for the most part. I only noticed one cramp the entire practice. That's decreased a good bit in the last two weeks. They did four quarters with a mostly running clock and then did some red zone and two-minute work.
Jaxson Dart played a lot in the first half with the starters and didn't put a helmet on after "halftime." Spencer Sanders got a touch of work in the second half, and it was a long look at Walker Howard and some of Austin Simmons. All the quarterbacks checked down a lot and worked the middle of the field with short and intermediate throws. It was hard to get much of a judge of things.
It was live and full contact at the line of scrimmage, but the first and second teams didn't tackle to the ground and play was stopped at a hint of contact. It made any stats with the run game useless because the defense did a nice job at the line of scrimmage, and breaking tackles wasn't allowed. Quinshon Judkins kind of laughed about it afterward because he was bottled up with what was basically one-hand touch. Kedrick Reescano was full contact and live. He looked good in his reps and showed well for a first scrimmage. We'll see what that looks like moving forward but nothing made me pump the brakes. He was shifty and got up field.
Jam Griffin was out there and got some carries, mostly with the reserves. They used him on some screens. He and Judkins both showed good hands out of the backfield.
Dart seemed to have the best day. He made a bad mistake to end the first drive but was otherwise consistent and accurate. The defense confused him on that drive in the red zone. They brought the corner and switched coverage on the right boundary to the safety. Trey Washington ended up with an easy interception.
Dayton Wade handled the first-team kickoff returns.
Spencer Sanders attempted more passes down the field than other quarterbacks. He hooked up with Ayden Williams for a huge gain on a go route in the second half of the scrimmage. Williams was quiet until three straight receptions on that drive. Williams was on-on-one with Demarko Williams during most of that.
Michael Trigg was with the third team. Heath took second team reps. Prieskorn had a really good day in the receiving game and seemed to block well, also.
With Jordan Watkins still out with the hamstring injury, the "starting" wide receivers were Tre Harris, Wade and Bralon Brown.
Defensively, the first 11 on the field were Cedric Johnson, Jared Ivy, JJ Pegues, Stephon Wynn, Washington, John Saunders, Daiajain Anthony, Reginald Hughes, Zamari Walton, Demarko Williams.
Prince and Bentley were held out for precautionary reasons.
Teja Young was in a non-contact jersey, but he had a big day with maybe two interceptions.
Jalen Knox had a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Caden Costa handled all field goals and most kickoffs. I didn't notice if he missed one.
Walton had a really good day in pass defense.
Hughes had a fumble recovery and return after a Sanders fumble, and later he combined with Johnson for a sack. Several of us noticed him a lot today.
There was a safety on Sanders' first drive after a bad snap, but Caleb Warren isn't back yet, so everyone is up a string there. I didn't notice McIntyre with snaps which is a good thing.
Dart and Sanders both felt pocket pressure well and used their feet effectively. It was an added element that was the best part of the run games.
Pete Golding is an exceptional whistler. I mean world class. Loud, distinctive.
Tre Harris overthrew Dart on a reverse pass off a Wade end-around. It was open.
Howard was ok on the day, but it was mostly with reserves. That creates a harder evaluation situation. There were some drops and a lot of pressure.
Nick Cull may have suffered a concussion. They took his helmet and he seemed wobbly
