SEC Player of the Week – Georgia guard Silas Demary Jr., a 6-foot-5, 195-pound sophomore from Raleigh, N.C., averaged 23.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals in wins over No. 3 Florida and at Texas. He shot 57.7 percent (15-of-26) from the field and 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from 3-point range in the two games. Demary was the Bulldogs’ leading scorer in each win, with back‐to‐back 20‐point performances of 21 against Florida and a career‐high 26 at Texas. He led Georgia to its highest ranked win in more than 20 years against No. 3 Florida, since defeating No. 3 Georgia Tech on Jan. 3, 2004. Demary scored 10 points in the opening 5:31 as Georgia raced to a 20‐6 lead over the Gators. He eventually finished with 14 first‐half points as the Bulldogs opened up a 51‐35 lead at the intermission. He recorded two 20‐point outings in two games, after posting two 20‐point tallies in the first 64 games of his career prior to last week.

SEC Freshman of the Week – Texas guard Tre Johnson, a 6-foot-6, 190-pound freshman from Garland, Texas, averaged 25.5 ppg, 4.0 assists, and 2.0 rebounds while converting 48.6‐percent (17‐35) from the floor, including a 57.1‐percent mark (8‐14) from 3‐point range, and 90‐percent (9‐10) from the free throw line in 38.4 minutes per game. In Wednesday’s 86‐81 overtime loss at Arkansas, Johnson posted a career‐best 39 points (career‐high 14‐28 FG, career‐best 7‐11 threes, 4‐4 FT) in 38 minutes. He set the Texas freshman single‐game scoring record, topping the previous mark of 37 set four times by Kevin Durant in 2006‐07 and once by Terrence Rencher in 1991‐92. Johnson also tied the Texas freshman single‐game record for most 3‐pointers made, equaling the mark set by DeJuan “Chico” Vazquez (7‐8) vs. SMU on Jan. 20, 1996. He scored all 12 of Texas’ points in the overtime session. Johnson returned to record 12 points (5‐6 FT), four assists, three boards and one steal in 38 minutes during Saturday’s home loss to Georgia.
