I watched an inning of a baseball game for every year since 1977

Yes this is how I spend my time, but it was pretty fascinating. Noticed a lot of things.
I picked a random inning from each game, so innings were scattered, sometimes the 1st, the 5th, 8th, etc.
- baseball pre 1990 ish was BORING. Seemed like 90% of the time if someone was on first there was a bunt, sometimes even with 1 out, which made my head want to explode. And good All-Star level players too.
- if you played short stop, 2nd base, centerfield or catcher, you most likely couldn’t hit. Basically every catcher batted 8th or 9th, center fielders would often bat 1st or 2nd, even though most couldn’t hit.
- there were a lot more stolen base attempts, even from relatively slower players. A lot of the team strategy seemed to be to force defenses into errors.
- pitchers pitched way faster. Put a timer on some pitchers, often times they would throw the ball within 10 seconds. It was rather insane to watch. because of this, the bunts, steals, and often just handing outs to the other team games were way shorter.
- relatively small sample size, and maybe this is just me, but the fundamentals of the game seemed to be better, especially defensively.
