NIL and Politics

Two of the most discussed topics on this board of late are NIL and politics. Now NIL strikes me as a perfectly appropriate subject for an Ole Miss sports board, but politics?

I will admit that I jump into the political threads at times and, if you have read any of my posts, you probably know that I am an unabashed Republican who does not like Donald Trump, even though I voted for him twice.

What I find ironic about the relationship between NIL and politics is that this is first and foremost an Ole Miss sports board. And yet, the Trumpers on the board seem to believe that Democrats are nothing but ignorant scum, even though Ole Miss probably raises more money for its NIL from Democrats than Republicans. But I guess those people, who give generously to Ole Miss, are still the scum of the Earth as far as most Trumpers here are concerned.

I guess what I am questioning is whether we should just ban all political posts, mine included, on this forum? Because I care a Hell of a lot more about seeing Ole Miss succeed than two geriatrics running for an office for which they are both too old. Surely, there are better forums for those discussions. And I would hate to see any of the vitriolic posts on here alienate any potential givers to Ole Miss. After all, the State of Mississippi does us no favors and we need to attract money from both sides of the aisle. I know that I for one appreciate all the people who donate to Ole Miss, regardless of political affiliation.

McCready and Siskey Troll Tuesday 11/28

Join Neal and myself at 2pm CT on the MPW YouTube channel. Just because of our show, we will give some news on the Indiana coaching search, so that the people listening can write their articles and tweets. (Wouldn't be surprised if you are reading this post too) We will preview championship weekend and talk some CFP. And of course we will finish on some Life Advice. Very interesting question coming for you today. See you guys at 2pm!

P.S. We are going to title today's episode Troll Tuesday. I feel bad that ever since we exposed our resident troll Dwight/Drew, that he has disappeared. Maybe he will see the title and stop by.

Not that I understand the entire NIL thing and how it works but

Is it in the School’s self interest to contribute to NIL? A great sports program and the resulting national media attention as well as concessions etc is certainly in the school’s best interests. It may or may not be legal, I don’t know, but reinvesting a portion of concessions revenue, for instance, into NIL could eventually turn into stadium expansion etc. The school may already be doing it. Just a thought.

Stoops discussions from pods

I said it over the weekend and I’ll say it again, I don’t buy any of the stories out there. I hate Ross as much as anyone but there is no way he went rogue and had to backtrack. I also don’t think Stoops ever had an offer, even verbally. My opinion is that Stoops initiated discussions and there were conversations and those conversations were leaked and somewhere in between both parties moved on. Stoops used this as leverage, not for more money, but to get the KY fans committed. Outside of beating UL last week, he’s had two very disappointing seasons back to back and the fans are restless up there, they don’t think he’s worth $9.2 annually. They also have to replace a lot of players going into next year.

I also don’t agree with Neal or Chase that he would have been a home run hire for A&M. He’s only more proven than Elko because of longevity, Elko’s first two seasons were much better than Stoops first two at KY. Elko probably has back to back 9 wins seasons if his QB didn’t get injured this year. At Duke!

I think Stoops wants out because his seat will get hot with that contract and the east division is going away.
