TX AM going all in........

** COACHING CAROUSEL ** Report out of College Station, Texas this morning: Texas A&M is preparing to offer Georgia Bulldogs Head Coach Kirby Smart the richest deal in coaching history. A Chill Sports associate spoke with one Aggie booster who was lead to believe last week's fundraising and booster donation was to allow the Texas A&M administration the ability to offer Coach Smart a "blank check". If necessary, they expect the offer to be in the $15-20 million yearly range. Money is no issue for the Aggies, as they now spend $30 million+ annually on recruiting, paid $77 million to fire Jimbo Fischer, and was gifted $160 million last week by their alumni. Expect the Aggies offer to resemble a 5 year/$100 million deal and to be fully guaranteed. Could the Aggies "carte blanche" approach lure the head bulldog away from Georgia?! #chillsports #aggies #CollegeStation #GoDawgs #tamu #12thman #secfootball #collegefootball

I don't believe it but thought it was interesting.......Sorry if already posted

Sounds like A&M is at ground zero and Ross has lost all credibility…..

The Latest From A&M

Yesterday was an extraordinary day for Texas A&M football but not necessarily in a good way…and it didn’t need to start or end like it did.

One of the things I’ve emphasized is having a process and for all of the attention that last night’s events will command, we got here because the process was flawed in the beginning which resulted in the near end result being extremely flawed as well.

A&M really didn’t want to make a move on from Jimbo Fisher until 2024. Emotionally, you guys wound up liking the fact that A&M did something this season and it rallied disparate interests to a common cause. Even so, as a result there was no process that you normally associate with changing out a coach.

The timing of the dismissal occurred around the last regular meeting of the year for the A&M board of regents. On the surface, the timing was sold as A&M needing to make a move now due to the state of the program and getting a head start on the keeping people out of the portal.

However, keep in mind that when most schools make a move on the head coach, they usually make a move on the athletic director first, especially when the athletic director has basically been there to serve the head coach.

By getting to the board and having his superiors (one of whom is a former Air Force general as opposed to any kind of a football guy) defer to him, the athletic director got to the coach first and also maneuvered himself to be in position to select the next head coach.

Thus, when Kentucky’s Mark Stoops approached A&M…here was an experienced guy with a solid resume, the type that might come to you in a surprise out of the big blue.

However, from a perception standpoint, Stoops was basically Fisher Lite. If you’re going to send Fisher packing and pay him $70+ million in the process, you’ve got to do better than that. Not only that, if you’re going to do interviews selling a incentivized salary structure and fewer resources, why turn around and try to convince people to fund the payment penalty and support staff money associated with bringing in another tenured head coach?

When word began to filter out on Saturday that Stoops was going to be guy, A&M tried to push on through anyway despite the fact that it wasn’t well received initially inside the program. While people focused on the reaction on social media last night, the money that made A&M football spending go threatened to go behind the scenes.

As a result, the movement to hire him went from full speed ahead to a U turn in a matter of hours.

However, the movement to hire him started as a result of a process that made everyone feel good emotionally but was flawed from the start.

For all of the criticism of using the 2024 season as well as 2023 to judge Jimbo Fisher, there was no off season that allowed A&M to vet candidates, examine in detail who was available, or gauge interest in who was available to the same extent as a timeline that a monht long timeline would allow. It was a rushed process by an athletic director who jumped started things on his own timetable and not that normally associated with most programs when contemplating a coaching change. In turn, that resulted in a hasty decision made in isolation that lacked much backing from many key individuals, much less an understanding of how a Stoops hire would have resonated with donors, fans, players, and their families.

In addition, public comments from the athletic director indicated that the next coach would have more financial restrictions than his predecessor (both from a salary and resources standpoint)…and which of us wants to look at a Indeed posting and see that splashed across the top?

Now, A&M is going to have to start over and there’s definitely going to have to be more oversight and input on the process going forward. That should make for a better end result but also more doubts as to how well A&M can manage the process not just now but in the future as well. In addition, it’s going to be interesting to see how it impacts the potential pool of candidates going forward.

If Ross survives this, I will be shocked (my opinion, not in the write-up).

8 coaches have been fired so far this year Part 1(#1-4)

Let us look at the 8 coaches fired. And I pick a song for each

#1 - Pat Fitzgerald - Northwestern

Pat Fitzgerald was the first head coach to lose his job in 2023. He was shown the exit door before the season following a hazing scandal that rocked the football program.

Fitzgerald was earlier suspended for two weeks by Northwestern. However, he later got fired by the program following outbursts on social media on the earlier decision. He is in a legal battle with the university, seeking $130 million in damages.

#2 - Mel Tucker - Michigan St

Mel Tucker was fired by Michigan St. in September with cause due to an ongoing university inquiry into a sexual misconduct complaint filed by sexual violence activist Brenda Tracy.

The Spartans suspended Tucker for two games into the season before being shown the exit door on September 27th. Michigan State aims to avoid paying Tucker the remaining $79 million in his contract by firing him for cause.

#3 - Jimbo Fisher - Texas A&M

Following six seasons of underwhelming performances, Texas A&M decided to part ways with Jimbo Fisher. The Aggies brought in Fisher in 2018, and he's performed below expectations.

The dismissal of coach Fisher by Texas A&M marks a shift in coaching buyouts in college football. The Aggies are set to pay Fisher $79 million, nearly three times the record buyout for a coach in the landscape.

#4 - Andy Avalos - Boise St

Andy Avalos was relieved of his duty on November 12 by Boise State following an underwhelming season. The decision came after a 42-14 loss to New Mexico.

The move was prompted by the Broncos’ 5-5 record and the looming threat of the program experiencing its first losing season since 1997. He was notably the Mountain West Coach of the Year in 2022 after leading the Broncos to a 10-4 season.

I think Ross may be done in College Station…

.,.at least if the A&M Rivals site is to be believed:

“So, now that we are in the post-Mark Stoops era, I have been told by multiple sources about a few things about what happened. And, short version, Landyn and I were right.

Jedd Fisch did interview, he did kill it and it was to the point that Ross Bjork indicated to the BOR that he would be the hire on Wednesday. On THURSDAY, Bjork commenced communications with Stoops and decided he would be the hire instead. Members of the BOR did not know this until LAST NIGHT. Some didn't know until this morning. NOBODY was told.

When I broke the story, along with everyone else that covers the beat, the outcry was well beyond anything that was expected. And Stoops got spooked and backed off. Kentucky is apparently cool with him staying.

So now A&M has to figure out how to recover from this clusterbleep and the most likely candidates are now Elko and E-Rob. There are a LOT of pissed off people, from regular fans to BMAs. There is a lot of explaining that has to be done and I really don't know how heads won't roll.”

Is it possible that

Lebby to state is a good hire for them and also a positive hire for us? I do think Lebby will be a good HC one day and has a chance to do well at state. He really does connect with these kids, just look at Matt. At the same time, I’m not sure there is a coach out there who would have Lane more motivated in regard to in state recruiting and egg bowl. Complacency has always been my fear with Lane and I think this helps that issue.

State Search

So talked with a pretty connected guy last night and this was his quick rundown of State search.

Mullen said he would come back for $8m but Keenum axed that quickly.

Chadwell said no

Fritz said no

Sumrall said no

Hiring Lebby. (Several prominent boosters don’t want Lebby and have threatened to withhold from NIL if hired). We shall see what happens.

Was told they currently have around $6-7 m in NIL for football and expect to have around $8-10 this year just for football. Don’t think they can sustain that but hoping for quick turnaround.
