RECRUITING: Thursday, Dec. 12 Recruiting Notes, presented by A-1 Discount Tree and Lawn Service

As Luke posted about and the player put on social media, ULM running back Ahmad Hardy is in town for an official visit. The 5-foot-10, 205-pounder rushed 238 times for 1,351 yards as a freshman at ULM. That was the 10th most rushing yards nationally, and he scored 13 touchdowns for the Warhawks. The most impressive stat is that only 1.4 yards per rush came before contact. He had a whopping 4.3 yards per carry after contact and forced 96 missed tackles on the season. He had 90 yards rushing after contact in six games this season.

Ole Miss, as a team in 448 rushes, forced 89 total missed tackles and averaged just fewer than three yards per rush after contact. Henry Parrish was at 2.97 per rush after contact, and Ulysses Bentley was at 2.44 after contact. Obviously there's a difference in Sun Belt versus SEC, but that was a negative stat for the Rebels this season considering the OL woes. Ole Miss didn't create holes or fight through tackles. Hardy had 15 carries for 60 yards against Auburn in week 12. Hardy caused four missed tackles in that game. The only time a Rebel forced that many in a game was Bentley's six against Georgia.

Oregon, Texas and Auburn are the teams most linked to Hardy outside of Ole Miss. Auburn has UConn running back Durell Robinson on campus right now. And the following was in an Oregon recruiting notebook yesterday on Rivals. This is far from scientific, but the Texas Rivas site, which does an excellent job, hasn't mentioned Hardy in nine days.

Running back: There will be a few running backs in the portal, but the Ducks may not make much of a push unless a no brainer enters the portal. The Ducks are not giving up on keeping Jordan James around another year. It would not be overly surprising to hear about Oregon making a NIL push to keep James along with the super talented freshmen coming in and Da’Jaun Riggs.

Yesterday's thread is here to catch up on the latest from Wednesday.

Basketball

We had a long way to go from where we were. Beard is growing the team a little each year.

Here is my observation. This team has lots of good players, no great players. I have said it to several friends, we don’t have a guy who can just go get a bucket at a big moment. Murray is too small. Murrell too inconsistent, same for Davis and Brakefield. Pedulla is a game manager and shouldn’t be your primary scorer. The other guys are nice pieces but not great.

We have a lot of guys who would be the 3rd or 4th options on top 5-10 teams. To go to the next level we will have to find a bucket getter.

I’m not down on the team. It’s a step better than last year and a step behind where we want to get.

Here's the thread from the weekend, in case you need to catch up:

Signing Day is Wednesday. I don't think there's a ton of guys we're waiting on. There could be some surprises, I suppose, but to my knowledge, these are the guys there's drama on:

-- The Auburn commitment visited Ole Miss over the weekend. He's been back and forth between Auburn and Oxford since de-committing to Notre Dame. Ole Miss sources are confident but it feels very close.

-- The Texas running back will announce his decision Tuesday. I believe he'll commit to Ole Miss.

-- The Kissimmee, Fla., lineman has been committed to Arkansas. I believe he will flip to Ole Miss and sign with the Rebels, but I don't have that on any authority.

-- The Winona linebacker is committed to Mississippi State, but he visited Ole Miss over the weekend. It could go either way, but Ole Miss sources are confident.

-- The Laurel product had been rumored to flip to Ole Miss weeks ago, but those rumors have died down. I expect Miller to stick with LSU.

-- The Tupelo product has a state championship game to play Thursday, but it's possible he makes some headlines Wednesday with a flip to Alabama. Ole Miss is trying to hold him.

-- The Alabaster, Ala., linebacker had been rumored to be close to flipping to Ole Miss a month ago. That noise has quieted since then. I expect he'll sign with Auburn, but nothing in recruiting is particularly shocking these days.

-- The Venice, Fla., standout is believed to be down to Ole Miss and Indiana. His name gets a lot of media buzz, but I don't hear a lot about it. We'll see.

Suntarine Perkins (Relax)

Great kid that's going to continue to grow. This staff deserves as much credit for keeping their players as they do for getting players out of the portal. Suntarine had a ton of money thrown his way and a lot of schools (Auburn) trying to create a wedge. Good on Lane and Co. for keeping our best players out of the portal. Big season coming for #4. NM

Running back

I know we’ve all heard the spin, blah blah blah bad teammate. But this year, especially after us trying to get a portal back, has anyone thought maybe Quinshon was just trying to show us where the market for running backs actually was? Were we trying to hoo-doo Quinshon’s team with some bullshit about the RB being the least valuable piece in the NFL? Did we start the bidding too low and QJ agreed…and then others raised our price? Did we fvck up a hundred million dollar season over an extra couple hundred grand?

The spin our numbskulls came up with was borderline delusional.

I heard a lot of talk about “who we could have gotten” all year. And, how if we had known before the bowl game, we would’ve had player A or player B. And, now that the next year is here, we don’t have shit… And the market is way higher for RB’s than it was last year…hmmm

QJ was like 2 backs in one. A thumper and a guy that could get 12-15 on a good burst. And he never fumbled. That guy (a guy as good as QJ) isn’t even out there to go get this year! Justice Haynes got a million and he’s about 50% of QJ.

To me, in the SEC, a good back is worth more than in the NFL. The reason being, half the defenses in the conference aren’t that good, and a good back can win those games.

The bottom line is that we have dumbasses that turned 12-0 into 9-3 over their feelings getting hurt. NFL mindset my ass. Little Rascals mindset is more like it.

Thinking about this Gator Bowl, how we beat the snot out of UGA and what could have been just pisses me off.
