Having just binged the season and the leaked finale, thought I’d give some biased commentary on the second season.
Pros:
The Dragons. This is obvious. Did a really good job with CGI
Aemond’s storyline. Even his regency. The humanization of a villain.
Arryk and Erryk were great.
Rook’s Rest. The death of Rhaenys and Meleys.
Addam and Alyn of Hull. Great job of adding nuance and depth to characters that aren’t fleshed out in Fire and Blood.
Cons:
Daemon’s hallucinations at Harrenhall. Wasted time on screen.
The dragonseeds. Never got invested. Ulf and Hugh suck in general.
Rhaenyra’s general inadequacy and doing nothing of value.
The Eryie storyline.
Alicent’s characterization.
Probably what they are going for, but I really dislike Criston Cole.
I’ll get blasted for being a racist here, but the casting of House Velaryon just doesn’t work for me. Maybe a I’m a cannon stan, but Valryians have a certain set of characteristics and the casting is just off putting.
Overall not a horrible season and sets up season 3&4 pretty well. Interested to see Daeron and Tessarion. Also more of the Starks. Roddy the Ruin, Cregan, Alysanne Blackwood, and Bloodraven? Want to see more of the reach. The battles coming up should be good TV.
