Lane piqued my interest yesterday talking about doing what's necessary to win an individual game and not just throwing it around the yard, so I looked up his splits this season and for previous season.
This year, Ole Miss has run 509 plays -- 246 pass and 263 run. (51.6 percent run)
2022: 1,047 - 481 pass, 566 run (54 percent run)
2021: 1,059 - 558 pass, 501 run (52.6 percent pass)
2020: 831 - 435 pass, 396 run (52.3 percent pass)
Lane at FAU in 2019 - 1,094 - 592 pass, 502 run (54.1 percent passs)
Note that the game by game stats won't add up because the season stats factor the play call. If it's a pass but Dart scrambles that's a pass play on the season stats. Same with sacks, etc. It's a run play in the game by game.
A closer look at this season:
Against Auburn, Ole Miss had 56 rushes and 18 passes. The Rebels ran on 13 of 14 plays in the fourth quarter and 27 of 35 plays in the second half.
Arkansas: 25 passes, 45 rushes. Ole Miss threw it on 12 of 22 plays in the second quarter and ran it on 19 of 23 plays in the fourth quarter.
LSU: 49 rushes, 39 passes. Ole Miss passed 23 times out of 43 plays in the first half and ran it 29 of 45 plays in the second half.
Alabama: 36 passes and 29 runs. Some of it was because of Alabama obviously, but Ole Miss got away from the run in the first half to a point it messed up the offense. 19 passes, 9 runs in the first half including 10 passes, 3 runs in the second quarter. The third quarter is the only one where Ole Miss ran more than it passed and it averaged 5.1 yards per carry in that quarter.
Georgia Tech: 37 rushes, 19 passes. First quarter was 12 rushes, 3 passes and third quarter was 11 rushes, 2 passes (both were caught and Ole Miss averaged 9 yards per play in the third quarter and 18 yards per play in the fourth quarter)
Tulane 35 rushes, 28 passes. Ole Miss had an equal number of runs and passes in each quarter through three quarters and then only threw it three times in the fourth quarter.
It was no statistical merit, but Ole Miss threw it a lot against Mercer.
