FOOTBALL: Lane Kiffin Sunday quick hits (audio only)

Really good win for the program/team, going to a place where we were 2-13 last 15 games there. Really proud of way they played, came out early and be up 35-10 at half, really proud of coaches and players for energy against a good team with a winning conference record.

Even though defensive stats look bad compared to what program is used to, played very well early. Six of first eight drives held Arkansas scoreless. Played to score in second half.

Georgia is “test of all tests,” “what Alabama used to be.”

“Kirby has done a great job,” noting no one but Alabama has beaten them in last 52 games. “Big challenge, loaded as they have been during that run, extremely talented roster, especially on defense. Like playing an NFL team — phenomenal length and speed/size ratio. Had they not slipped up last year, they would have three straight championships. That says a lot.

Henry Parrish Jr. is out. “That’s all I’ve got.”

Austin Simmons did well, made some nice throws, great touch on TD pass. “He’s done well when he’s played this year. That was really good to see.”

Sam Pittman was surprised Ole Miss didn’t use tempo as much. Kiffin said there wasn’t much to that. It was just the one-play drives. Not much tempo when there aren’t many plays. Ole Miss was operating as usual.

Great to be at home. Played well over last few years, with exception of Kentucky. Night isn’t a big deal, just upset for the fans that they don’t get a night SEC game this year. There’s a competitive advantage at night with loud atmospheres — look at South Carolina game.

Last six quarters have been what team had in mind — especially with Tre Harris out. Pass rush has been great. Umanmielen makes a big difference in that regard.

Domonique Thomas was very good in pass protection. Had some solid runs. Running game didn’t really get unleashed versus Arkansas. Thomas did a good job.

The game today broke The Hogs ….

I have several Arkansas fans as friends, and today broke them. They 100% thought they were going to beat The Rebs today. History says they had the right to feel that way, but 63 points on that ass in Fayetteville broke them. They were NOT ready for that ass beating today.

Sam Pittman is 100% done now. That’s a wrap on the Sam Pittman era.

Kudos to the coaching staff, and the players. No matter what happens next week, just know your Rebels destroyed The Hogs spirit.

OleMiss hoops futures

OleMiss 80/1 to win natty and 40/1 to win SEC is kinda crazy. A bunch of full grown adults on that team. Interesting to see how they come together. All of them are used to big minutes and high production. Oddly enough, my biggest question is defense. Most all profile as below average defenders. Adams is back on Beard’s staff too…and Adams can coach the hell out of some defense.

Also think Florida 60/1 is definitely off. No way they should be priced the same as teams like Ohio State, BYU, etc.

OT: Thankful

The last several weeks have been hell on earth. I’ve lost a Father in Law, held my wife and kids in my arms as they fall apart, had to run from hurricanes, and had to watch my dog pass away….but tonight my family and friends surprised me with an amazing birthday party. God is good and I am thankful for nights like tonight. Stop and take time to appreciate those in your life that truly love you….

Some interesting matchup stats for this weekend:

I can’t run conference only because the official site is messed up for conference only stats. So we are stuck with yearly which, of course, has its flaws. But I think it gives a good idea of where the game will be decided — who can limit the other through the air the most. Ground game for both appears to be a wash.

iPad Usage in College Football per an Unusual News Outlet..

Interesting stuff about how game action ends up on tablets... and what conferences use the technology..

One could say "well, the NFL uses the same technology with Microsoft Surface tablets"... True, but still an interesting look at how th8ngs are actually done:

Boise State could get a bye.

I just saw this, and it hadn’t crossed my mind.

The top 4 seeds go to the Top 4 ranked conference champions.

If and when BYU takes a loss, there is a decent chance that Boise State is ranked ahead of the entire Big 12 conference.

If they finish out winning the rest, and the Big 12 champion is ranked lower, then the Big 12 champion is going to end up as that 12 seed, and Boise State would be the 4.
