HOOPS: Arkansas vs. Ole Miss (SEC Tournament second round) game thread

I'm setting this up now before I walk to the arena here in a bit.
As of this morning, Ole Miss is No. 27 in the NET. Arkansas stayed at No. 39 after holding off South Carolina Wednesday here in Nashville.
Check out the front page for my article previewing today's game.
It's a completely different team for Arkansas than the one Ole Miss defeated in Fayetteville in the first week of the league slate. The Hogs basically just play seven guys. Their guards are OK. Trevon Brazile can get hot and become a problem from the 3-point line. Jonas Aidoo is a fairly skilled big.
For Ole Miss, the key is defense. Simple as that. Play good defense and the Rebels will face Auburn tomorrow at noon in the quarters. Play sloppy, lazy defense and Arkansas just might send Ole Miss home early.
The line is Ole Miss minus-4 or so, and I think that's about right.
Tipoff is set for noon at Bridgestone Arena.

Indiana/Beard Update

Update from one of my Hoosier friends that is pretty plugged (@HooReb wonder if you hear the same)

IU AD is using the same search firm that he used to hire Cignetti. It’s his hire to make…

Stevens, Bennett, Drew, and May are a no. Cronin, Otzelberger, and Buzz were considered but are out for one reason or another.

The 2 main names over the last few weeks has been Brownell (Clemson) and McCollum (Drake). He thinks McCollum would be the easier sell of the 2. There’s some thought that those are smokescreens…speculation points to McDermott, but concern is he’s a little older and may not be the guy to revive a program at this stage in his career, or McCasland…but he likes where he is and is more interested in the Texas job if it comes open, which seems very probable (also watch for Quin Snyder if so).

AND THAT BRINGS US TO… Chris Beard. Early on he wasn’t a viable candidate because of the “baggage”. APPARENTLY, that has changed over the last 48 hours or so. There is rumored to be some momentum right now (even rumors of a meeting happening). They still feel like it’s unlikely, but just stating that things moved from an “absolutely not” to being on the list. They say (consider the source) that Beard’s people have made it known that he’s very interested in the job.

Take it fwiw … don’t shoot the messenger … this is a discussion board, so posting for discussion.

Way way OT: Winds of Winter

For the fellow ASOIAF fans and nerds, I fell down a rabbit hole the other day. I was reading a few blogs, essays, and Reddit, plus GRRM’s Notablog (I’m a nerd, sue me) and a trend was pointed out. He is starting to talk more openly of WOW and his behavior is indicating it may be close as he did with A Dance of Dragons.

Supposedly he has at least 1100 manuscript pages ready (as of late 2022) to submit to the publisher. I know there is eternal pessimism in regards to George actually finishing anything and I understand, but I am excited to at least see some of the things we’ve all been waiting on (Stannis, Jon’s death and resurrection, Mereen with Barristan, Tyrion, and Victorian, Dorne, FAegon, and everyone’s favorite: Euron.). Even if he never finishes A Dream of Spring (highly doubt it), I’d be happy to at least see Winds of Winter.

Mike and Mike was so much better than anything on ESPN these days

Mike Greenberg is being wasted as sharp as he is. All they do is skim the high points. Bringing back Mike and Mike would be so good. Much more in depth conversation.

I used to binge listening to them and the herd when Colin Cowherd was a little more bearable

I tuned in this morning to see them anoint UNC, apparently they’re winning it all this year and little Ole Miss is about to be taken behind the woodshed. Our team is small, too small. Great matchup for UNC.
