I was talking to a friend earlier tonight about SEC football.. Right now UGA looks very good... "three-peat" good...
We got to talking about which was more impressive for UGA.. beating OM 52-17 at Athens or beating Tennessee 38-10 at Knoxville...
On paper the 35 point win over OM is something.. But the 28 point win over TN was remarkable when you look deeper at the stats..
TN had a 75-yard TD run on the first play of the game... TN would gain only 202 yards the rest of the game and score just three points.. TN was 2-11 on third down and had 13 first downs.. They did hold UGA to 472 yards of offense.. UGA was 9-13 on third down.. UGA won the time of possession stat 41-19...
OM managed 352 yards and 18 first downs... OM was 6-15 on third downs.. Yes, OM gave up 611 yards offense.. UGA won the time of possession stat 31-29..
Yeah, our loss was a real stinker of a game, but the circumstances and setting was huge in favor of UGA..
The same circumstances could have been said about UT today with all the hoopla and glitter surrounding the game, but they bombed in their home loss, snapping a 14 game winning streak at Neyland Stadium before 101,915 fans...
