OEP discussion on Christmas movies

What drives me up the wall with Home Alone 2 is that they go to bed with the ALARM CLOCK BLINKING. I mean, WTH? Where was the hand raise guy saying that was a stupid thing to base the plot. Now Home Alone with the power going out in the middle of the night is totally believable. I almost missed an exam at Ole Miss back in the '80s when the power in the dorm went out for a minute and my digital clock went out. Geez, every time I see Home Alone 2 I yell out "set the damn clock!!"

Also, Die Hard is a Christmas movie as is Die Hard 2 and Lethal Weapon.

It's a Wonderful Life is legendary but I only watch it once and that is on Christmas Eve.

The best version of A Christmas Carol is the 1984 version with George C. Scott.

And A Christmas Story is a favorite but I only watch it on Christmas Day.

Neal: Should the NBA and MLB get rid of the lottery?

In the NFL, if you finish last, you get the first pick. That allows you the opportunity to draft who you think is the best player.

You talked yesterday on OEP about the NFL being popular because if you’re the worst, you get to draft the best player. There’s a light for your team being really bad.

The MLB and NBA don’t act the same, and I think the criticism around the draft order is significantly greater than the accusations of tanking in the NFL. Wemby to the Spurs is a great example.

Would it improve the drafts in those two sports to drop the lottery?

The Grove Collective

I just want to say how impressed and thankful I am for the Grove Collective continuing to support our athletes, coaches, and this University. What Walker Jones, the Jordan’s, and the rest of the Collective have done has been unbelievable. They've been ahead of the game from the very jump. It’s made the experience of being an Ole Miss fan really enjoyable and exhilarating. I’m not sure I thought we’d ever be here after what happened 5-6 years ago. Enjoy this Rebel Nation!

With that being said, we are in uncharted waters with the current state of Ole Miss Athletics. Let’s keep the momentum going! I didn't have a lot to donate but I did it anyway! $100! If I can donate, you can too. Even if it’s $5 or $20, every little bit counts! LFG!!!! 🦈🦈🦈🦈 @The Grove Collective @WL3

OT: 2 part Finale of "The Office" best ever?

Slowly been rewatching "The Office" again for probably the 4th time from start to finish. Just been one of those shows where I put it on late at night when I'm just biding goodbye to the final twilight hours. Just finished the 2 part finale and maybe it's just getting older but those episodes hit some serious heart strings.

Been some really good shows and some eh endings, but to me "The Office" holds up with a great show and great ending.

OT- Beats vs AirPods

All, doing some last minute Christmas shopping and noticed the Beats Studio buds on sale on Amazon for $89. If it were between the basic AirPods and the beats which do you choose? These are for my wife to wear while walking the dogs and at the office. She listens to mainly murder podcasts like seemingly every other millennial woman.

Pros and cons of each?

Here's Tuesday's thread, in case you missed it. It was a fairly light news day, but there's still enough there to go through it if you need a refresher.

I guess we're still on commitment watch as we get rolling on this Wednesday morning. There were a lot of hints yesterday, but to my knowledge, nothing has been announced yet.

Virginia Tech transfer portal tight end Daequan Wright confirmed overnight that he is taking an official visit to Ole Miss this weekend. I'll try to follow up with him before and after, but I'm getting ghosted by guys a lot. I'm clearly doing something wrong in the communication process.

I've heard from a couple of sources that Texas A&M transfer portal defensive tackle Walter Nolen's official visit to Ole Miss begins Thursday. I continue to hear Ole Miss is in great shape there, but the Rebels have to close the (huge) deal there. I continue to believe he's Priority 1.

Rivals' Adam Gorney caught up with Starkville, Miss., ATH Braylon Burnside. I'll be transparent here; I think this is over and Burnside is going to Mississippi State. As you've likely picked up by now, I don't really get into the "drama" of recruiting, so I don't put a lot of stock in this, but Burnside is quoted, so I suppose it's worth considering.

Speaking of Rivals, they released the 2025 Rivals250. Here it is:

More as/when/if I get it...

Coverage note

I've got four pre-written commitment stories in admin, so if one or more of those break, Chase will publish them for me. I'm going to be out of pocket for the next 4.5 hours or so, so if stuff breaks that I wasn't aware of, I'll just get beat. Have a good night. If there's stuff to write when I get back, I'll get to it then. It's a big district game tonight between Oxford and Hernando. We're without our best striker and now without our goalkeeper, so it's going to be a challenge. Not that anyone here would ever watch, but I'm told there's going to be a livestream tonight.
