Lane Kiffin

We have all seen a lot of talk about Ole Miss’ resume. I think OM gets in the CFP but having 6 sec teams for 4 spots is a possibility. The committee will have to find distinguishing criteria. That is where I think having Lane as a coach is crucial. @Neal McCready always says lane gets clicks. Lane also gets eyeballs, and eyeballs means $$$. After all that is all this sport is about now!

Just a few thoughts

What a win for the program. That was special.

Simmons coming in and halting Georgias momentum after the int and injury can’t be understated. That kid is a cool customer. All the money on the table and things didn’t start our way. He comes in like it’s no big deal and leads a drive that was as important as any I can remember. Nice little peek into the future as well. He looks special.

Hat tip to Lane for not getting carried away in the moment, and putting Jaxson back in. Sounds like an easy decision but I can’t imagine that it was.

Whoa that crowd. That was as good as it gets in VHS. Packed it out in the rain, and from all accounts nobody ever sat down. I’m impressed. Not sure I believed we had that kind of environment in us. They made a difference in that game.

Hat tip to the OL. They protected Jaxson really well last night. Their play should teach a few of our fans a lesson in patience. When a roster is constructed like ours has been, sometimes it won’t all be perfect on day one. It takes time and reps. They played their tails off last night and I’m grateful for it.

Hat tip to the staff for what they’ve done. Taking this many transfers and inserting them in key positions is a really tall task. Handling these kids egos, wants and needs while also doing what’s best for the team can’t be easy. We’re doing stuff that nobody has ever done in this sport.

Masterful game called by Charlie last night. Wow! Just wow! Down the best WR in the country. Down our starting RB. Banged up OL. Banged up TE. Jaxson goes down and throws a pick on the opening drive. Georgia answers with TD, and all the sudden a freshman is running the show. I can’t imagine how he was feeling. He then proceeds to call a masterpiece. Dude takes a lot of shit from some people who have no idea what they’re looking at. Happy for him.

Take a bow Pete Golding. IMO, he’s the best in the biz and none of last night happens without him. Dude has taken this program to another level. That defense last night looked like the best in the country. He’s the straw that stirs the drink. He’s the special sauce. He and Lane together is more than we deserve. We are absolutely ferocious on defense and championship good at all three levels. Thank you.

Thanks to the fans and the collective. You guys made last night possible and I’m forever grateful. I’m a poor nobody and can barely afford caps and tickets. I’m thankful that there are so many folks that are willing to give their hard earned money and make yesterday such a special one for me.

Thanks to Lane. He’s the maestro. He’s perfect for Ole Miss and without his vision and ability to put all of this together we’re still just another SEC team hoping to make bowl games.

Last night was cool. It was special. I’ve been around for a while and we just don’t get many of those. So much went into getting there. Keith. Glen. The staff. The collective. The kids. Trainers. Equipment staff. The people who put in so much work behind the scenes that take care of this program. The guys that keep the facilities clean. The interns who take care of the players. The people who feed the program. I know it sounds like I’m going overboard, but I see it firsthand everyday. It takes a village, and I’m just so freaking grateful for all of it.

We still have a long way to go and a lot will need to go our way to get to where we want to be, but yesterday was one of the special ones in our programs history, and it needs to be acknowledged. It was awesome and I am just so freaking happy and full of gratitude to have been here to see it.

HYDR and LFG!

ETA: thanks to Jaxson Dart. He deserves an entire post of his own. Kid has been through some shit in his time here. From taking blame to Spencer Sanders, to leading the program, to leading the recruiting charge to build this team. Kid is tough as an old boot and continues to answer the bell and lead the way. He’s a great kid and I’m not sure there’s ever been a more important or impactful player in OM history. He’s shattering record books and winning ball games at a rate nobody here ever has. Hat tipped. He’s a ****ing dawg!

Quick shoutout to @RunThePower . Pete makes all of us smarter fans and is one of my favorite pieces of this community. Dudes lovable as hell and has great taste in music to boot. 😉 😎

Sorry for rambling and getting sappy. I just couldn’t be more thrilled to see so much effort come to fruition last night

An RG discussion on rushing the field

If you are a TLDR kind of dude don't spam the comments with that.
I'll let you off with a simple question for the debate.
Do you agree with storming the field or not and what are your opinions on it?

If you want context for me, here's my experience from last night.
Before last night, I had the opinion to act like you’ve been there before. I didn’t agree with storming the field. I’ve never climbed over the wall and gotten on the field.

In the end, I got caught up in the moment.

I’m almost 50, so I decided this might be my last time that I could make it over the wall and at least stand on the sideline or on the field away from the mass of students. I figured I wouldn’t get another chance. Before the game was over they were letting people over the wall, which might’ve been dumb. I was over the wall, standing behind the benches with a couple of Ole Miss media members talking about how crazy the students were being. When they rushed the field with 16 seconds left, the media guys were telling me that they can actually take the win away from us at that point. That they had done it to some FCS or lower schools. They seem to have a pretty big fear that it could happen. We laughed at how idiotic the students were rushing the field with 16 seconds left.

Now, here is where some of the chaos and lessons are learned. What started as me just trying to stay around the bench ended up with me getting pushed and pushed more onto the field and into huge crowds. I'm being pushed by people behind me and from my sides into people in front of me like never before. I actually felt in danger of safety at that point. That keeps happening for a few minutes and then it settles down for the most part as people are rushing to the goalpost and I'm staying in the middle as much as I can. I think it will be OK at that point and that the tunnel will open up and people can easily get out. That didn't turn out to be the case. At that point, I start feeling some massive waves of people coming towards me with goalpost. They don't care about anything besides moving forward. All of a sudden it's worse than a mosh pit, and people are pushing and pushing, and pushing with no fear of human safety. I think they're smarter ways to do what they were doing. I'm just hoping and pray that no one gets hurt at that point. They did come by carrying a girl hollering about a medical emergency. A few of the goal post moved by and the idiots were up in the stands thinking about throwing them over the edge, so we finally got moving out the tunnel and out.

In conclusion, here are my takeaways after that life experience:
1. I am not OK with storming the field. Someone is going to get seriously hurt or killed at some point. If I had a son or daughter wanting to do it, I would encourage them not to.
2. A lot of college kids, especially males are tools. I've never wanted to punch a few kids so hard in my life after last night. Watching how they acted getting down the stairs and onto the sidelines there's a few bad parents out there who taught them no manners. The things that they say to adults and do show me a lot. I get young and dumb, but they were just the worst.
3. Storming the field was anti-climatic. It's not all it's cracked up to be.

Let’s compare some metrics by potential playoff teams

There are still 3 weeks left plus conference title games, but I wanted to compare some teams we may be battling with for playoff spots.

  • Texas- AP Poll (3), Sagarin Ranking (2), Game Control (5), FPI (2), SOS (55). Remaining games- @ Arkansas (👀), Kentucky, @ Texas A&M (👀)

  • Texas A&M- AP Poll (15), Sagarin Ranking (13), Game Control (14), FPI (15), SOS (21). Remaining games- NM State, @ Auburn (👀), Texas

There will be upsets and things will sort themselves out, but OM is in a really good spot. Peaking at the right time, only losses by 6 combined points, and most importantly, the metrics favor OM over a lot of teams. Utah had a chance last night to really help out a lot of the SEC teams (shout-out BIG 12 refs for being garbage). We really need to win the next 2 games very convincingly and root for as many 3 loss SEC teams as possible. Added bonus points to any team that can knock off BYU or Notre Dame
