Where are we at with cornerbacks?

I know we need DL and that help is on the way. Same goes for OL and it sounds like we will have some more options coming up. Everything else is looking pretty good IMO other than CB. As of now, our 2024 room looks like:

-Tahveon Nicholson (Sr.)
-Jarrell Stinson (Jr.)
-Ced Beavers (Jr.)
-Chris Graves (So.)
-AJ Brown (So.)
-Travaris Banks (Fr.)
-Anthony Robinson III (Fr.)
-Patrick Broomfield (Fr.)
-Shamaar Darden (Fr.)

Have to think we will look at adding one or two more, yeah? Especially since Robinson and/or Darden may end up at another position. Hopefully, Beavers and Nicholson contribute right away at a significant level and some of the younger guys take a step.

I think reality is finally setting in.

Almost seems like a halfway rational post by Steve. I like how he mentioned that he put the stuff about the Ohio State QB visiting in his Bones just in case something happened. Isn't that called throwing sh*t on the wall & seeing if something sticks?

Yesterday, I said there were a couple of guys I was waiting to hear back on when it came to OV's this weekend. One of those was Gregory Genross and the other was QB transfer prospect Kyle McCord. Genross made it, McCord didn't. I was tipped earlier this week that McCord was expected to come in, but didn't want to post that until I confirmed it with him. I was unable to reach him and now he didn't visit after all. I felt it was a long shot, but mentioned it in the bones just in case it worked out.<<Exhibit A>>
You want my gut feeling on this QB thing? I'll give it to you. I don't think State is going to land a blue chip QB out of the portal. Gabriel committed to Oregon and canceled his future visits. I honestly felt like he was the most likely option due to his connections with Lebby. McCord backed out of his visit here. I suspect Cameron Ward is going to stay out west and that DJ will likely end up at Florida State.
Now that understood, I still think State can get another good QB out of the portal. I don't think they just folded up shop with the Shapen commitment. State needs competition at the position and I expect there to be some.
State has to get some wins in the portal as you all know. You may see Justin Ball and Ethan Miner commit sooner rather than later, but State needs a lot more and I mean a lot more. The good news is that transfer portal guys basically have a month or more to decide as they don't sign in December. It is going to be a process and we're going to have to see a lot of guys get offers to get this thing where it needs to be.
I am just going to encourage you to hang in there and let the coaches work. This isn't going to be some highly rated class due to making a coaching change and having to establish new relationships and change gears with guys they were recruiting to other schools.
I believe Jeff Lebby will get the QB room where it needs to be. If there is anything you should feel confident about should be Lebby's ability to get his guy and then get the most out of him. I say that in hopes of avoiding a meltdown on the board every time a high profile QB announces a transfer everywhere.

Football success comparison to basketball and others?

There are certainly tiers of success when it comes to seasons: Most Ole Miss fans view making an Access Bowl a major success for the season. After this year i assume the "major success" benchmark will be making the 12 team playoff. What do you think is the equivalent for other Ole Miss sports based on past program success??

Would the basketball team making it to the sweet 16 (any particular year) be looked at as equally successful as the 12 team playoff in football or would it need to be a deeper run (elite 8?)

Same with baseball - i would assume making the tournament, is not viewed as successful as the basketball team making the tournament?

Is the lower bowls (Liberty, Birmingham, Music City) be the equivalent to just making the tournament in basketball, baseball?
Would Gator/Citrus/Outback be considered about the same success as making a super regional?

Just curious how those that have been fans a long time consider tiers of success, of course the 12 team playoff next year might make expectations much different as far as which bowls you get to go to.

Conspiracy Theory on not Showing, Playing, or Talking about Young Players

Not saying that this is the main reason for this and not saying that we haven’t missed on some evals, but is it possible that there is a strategy in place to limit playing time and overall visibility of younger players in an effort to keep their portal stock down until we really need them? How much of development comes from on vs off the field?

The two young OL and Ayden are examples of this in my opinion.
